I was listening to a podcast on the way home from Atlanta this weekend.
The guy was talking about N.E.A.T.
Non-exercise activity thermogenesis, that is.
Now before you go and tune me out…
keep reading, because this is about to get super exciting for you if you’re trying to lose weight.
N.E.A.T. is energy expended when you’re not sleeping, eating, or working out.
Walking, working, yard work, fidgeting… yes, even sitting in the infrared sauna (many of our VIP members have free access to our sauna at the gym to use).
Why should you care?
Well, quite simply, it’s a super easy way to accelerate your results, with very little effort.
When most people are working out and eating well, but they want to get even better results, they automatically think the answer is to work out harder and longer.
But your nervous system needs a break.
Remember, 50 minutes is your workout sweet spot. Any more is counter-productive.
The answer to getting even faster results is simply by increasing your N.E.A.T.
You can burn an extra 300 calories just taking a walk every day.
An extra 300 calories adds up.
DO THE MATH:
300 calories, 7 days per week = 2100 calories.
2100 calories a week x 52 weeks in a year = 109,200 EXTRA calories burnt from
walking.
It takes 3500 calories to burn off 1 pound of body fat.
That means, you could burn an extra 31 lbs. PER YEAR just from walking.
Pretty “NEAT”, right?
Achieving your goals doesn’t have to be hard.
But if adding a regular walk each day is just too hard right now, TRY THIS INSTEAD =>
Wear a pedometer every day or download an app to track your steps.
Then add extra movement in during your day. Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
Walk during your lunch break. Do an extra lap after your workout.
Hit 10,000 steps each day for the next week before you retire for the night.
Cuz every small effort adds up.
